Automotive EPS Motor Test Solution

AIP focuses on global motor testing and domestic innovative EPS motor performance test systems It can replace foreign brands and customize automotive EPS motor testing solutions according to customer needs.

With the continuous development of the automotive industry, automotive power rotation systems (EPS) have become an indispensable part of modern automobiles. Automotive EPS assists the driver in turning the rotation wheel through the automotive EPS motor, improving driving control and comfort. To ensure that the quality and performance of automotive EPS motors from the factory meet the requirements, automotive manufacturers must implement a rigorous testing program for factory inspection of automotive EPS motors.

In 2022, AIP disassembled and analyzed multiple types of automotive EPS motors, and developed several automotive EPS motor performance testing systems, which, as innovative products in China, have been put into production in the production line of Dechang Motors, and have completely replaced imported brands.

A professional automotive EPS motor test solution will be introduced here for automotive EPS motor manufacturers' reference.

I. Automotive EPS motor test solution: test items

In order to customize an effective automotive EPS motor testing solution, we clarify the automotive EPS motor testing items. There are several test items for automotive EPS motors:

1, cogging torque: The cogging torque of the EPS motor refers to the torque generated by the interaction between the geometry of the cogging and the electromagnetic field when the motor is rotating. Cogging torque will cause the motor to produce vibration and noise, speed fluctuations, so that the motor can not run smoothly, affecting the performance of the motor

2、Friction torque: Measure the friction of the bearing of the motor itself to meet the technical requirements of the user unit on the friction performance of the bearing.

3, Separation torque: The separation torque of an EPS motor is the maximum torque required for the motor to overcome static or initial resistance during startup or operation to separate or start a mechanical load from a static state. This parameter is very important for the design and selection of the motor. The breakaway torque determines whether the motor is strong enough to cope with the load it is required to handle.

4, torque fluctuations: EPS motor torque fluctuations refer to the phenomenon of irregular changes or fluctuations in the torque value of the motor during operation. Torque fluctuations may negatively affect the performance, stability, and service life of the motor.

5, Drag torque: The drag torque of the EPS motor refers to the additional torque generated by the EPS motor when the car is moving, which is used to overcome the friction between the car's tires and the road surface to keep the car moving in the desired direction. Drag torque is slightly different from the torque produced by the motor during direct assisted steering because drag torque occurs when the car is moving.

6, performance testing: EPS motor performance testing is to assess the various performance parameters of the EPS system to ensure that the EPS motor in the actual application can be safe, stable and reliable work.

7, torque constant: EPS motor torque constant is an important motor parameter, usually expressed in Kt, the torque constant represents the relationship between the output torque and current of the EPS motor. Specifically, the torque constant represents the amount of torque that the motor is able to produce per unit of current.

8, reverse electromotive force: the reverse electromotive force of the EPS motor is the voltage or potential difference generated when the EPS motor is in operation. This counter-electromotive force is an induced voltage induced by the rotational motion of the motor, generated inside the motor, and is related to the motor's motion speed and magnetic field strength.

9, short-circuit current: EPS motor short-circuit current refers to when there is a short-circuit or fault in the windings of the EPS motor, the current will be in the short-circuit point or the fault of the current value of the concentration of the flow. Short-circuit current is usually a temporary, abnormal current, it may cause damage to the motor and motor control system, so it needs attention.

10, resistance: EPS motor resistance is the resistance value within the motor winding, the motor performance and power consumption have an impact.

11, inductance: EPS motor inductance is the EPS motor windings in the self-inductance value, inductance reflects the degree of current changes on the voltage.

Ⅱ. Automotive EPS motor test program: test results and data analysis

After the automotive EPS motor test is completed, the EPS motor performance test bench automatically collects and analyzes the test data and generates a test report. The automotive EPS motor test report includes test results and test curves. If the automotive EPS motor fails the test, the test result interface will display "NG" and an alarm.
